My little princess started the 1st grade today.  She's still my baby girl.  It's hard for me to let her grow up.  I worry.

There are so many things I can't protect her from; physically and emotionally.

I love her.

Zoltar Speaks

08/01/2013

I remember traveling with my parents as a kid and whenever I saw a Zoltar or Fortune Machine, I had to have one.  Still today, I'm the same way.  I think these fortunes are very insightful and fun at the same time

Your Fortune

I see a great deal of happiness in store for you.  Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle and the life of the candle will not be shortened.  Happiness never decreases by being shared.  So, if an object you ardently pursue brings little happiness when gained remember most of our pleasures come from unexpected sources.  Share the good news when it arrives.

For happiness is like a sunbeam which the least shadow shall intercept, while suffering is often as the rain of spring.  Enjoy this day.

3 Important Safety Tips

Safety Tips

A few days ago, a friend of mine told me about an incident that occurred while she was riding the train through downtown. The train stopped at its destination and the doors opened to allow other passengers to board the train, and just before the doors closed, out of nowhere someone snatched her phone out of her hand and ran away. This was an unfortunate event but really got me thinking about my everyday routine and if we are really as safe as we think we are. As bad as it sounds, the reality of the matter is that we are not completely safe in our everyday activities. There are a few ways we can remain safe while still being able to enjoy our lives.

1. Be aware of our surroundings.

When traveling to a new place or environment, it is very important to be aware of what’s going on around you at all times, especially when going somewhere alone. If you drive make sure your doors are locked and possessions are hidden and secure before you exit your vehicle. Studies have shown that most women wait until they are at their cars before they go through their purse to look for their keys; which is a bad idea especially considering how many things are kept in purses. Police and security officers strongly recommend having your keys ready before walking to your car, saving time in case of an emergency which could also save your life.

2. Be Prepared.

Defense is the best offense.  There are hundreds of self defense classes that can be taken that teach everything from martial arts to how to properly handle a weapon such as a handgun for people who choose to go that route. It’s one thing to have the necessary tools, but another to know how to utilize them; and without the proper training, we can end up hurting ourselves or others if we are not careful. Defense does not always necessarily mean to physically defend yourself, but also to avoid or prevent further harm from yourself or others. There are many survival skills we can learn from doctors or nurses in  the event of a medical emergency such as cpr. Knowing special skills such as cpr or the Heimlich maneuver when someone is choking can be the difference between losing a loved one or saving their life.

3. Home security

Although unexpected, sometimes the threat can come to us in our homes. It is important to have alarm systems set up in your home in case of an intruder or emergency. Pflugerville home security systems features a keypad with buttons you can press that will notify the police, fire department, or medical response team depending on what kind of emergency you may have. Having features like this in your home are good to have in case you can’t access a phone or are away from home. The most important thing is to always be prepared because we never know what life will throw at us.

GLOSSYBOX Dallas Shaw Collaboration

Disclaimer: This charming GLOSSYBOX was sent to me for review purposes. As always, all opinions are my own.

GLOSSYBOX is an affordable luxury.  It gives women a chance to sample (in generous doses) awesome beauty products. Each GLOSSYBOX has a theme or celebration that takes you on a mini-Beauty adventure. Each GLOSSYBOX features a minimum of 5 products from a variety of high end brands.  Almost always the products are full or deluxe samples.  This allows their subscribers to try products and then only commit to the ones they fall in love with.

First of all, I love Dallas Shaw's illustration on this box.  It's so cute, it's definitely a collector's box!

This GLOSSYBOX Dallas Shaw Collaboration Box included:

c.booth Honey Almond Nourishing Dry Oil Mist

Originally I'm from Hawaii, now I live in Vegas.  The Vegas weather has definitely done a number on my skin.  This lightweight dry oil is great.  It smells really nice and sutle and it feels gentle on my skin.  It gives my skin a smooth soft feel and a natural healthy glow without looking or feeling greasy.

Oscar de la Renta Essential Luxuries

These scents were inspired by Oscar de la Renta's love of fashion, beauty, and luxury.  My two favorites are Coralina and Mi Corazon.  Coralina smells of elegance and class.  It smells soft and clean.  Mi Corazon is also my husband's favorite.  It actually reminds me of nights back home in Hawaii,  when the breeze's would capture the scents of local flowers and the night mists near the ocean.  Mi Corazon is the perfect name for this scent, it definitely reminds me of falling in love with my sweetheart.

Philip B. pH Restorative Detangling Toning Mist

Where was this when I had my longer hair?  I needed this!  I tested this out on my daughter's hair.  She's 6, so obviously her hair gets tangled.  She's gotten combs stuck in it before.  This definitely works.  It helps with the tangles and has made her hair pretty and glossy...which now makes her love her hair so much!

SpaRitual Favorites Nail Polish

I received the Spice of Life color.  Usually my husband is into softer natural polish colors on me, however, this was a big hit!  According to him, it's very classy sexy.  I agree it is an amazing color, great texture, with just the right amount of shimmer.

tarte Complexion Enhancing Lipstick (fair to light)

I love this lipstick!  It made my natural lip color brighter, perfect for summer.  It actually did my lips look fuller!

My top three picks from the GLOSSYBOX Dallas Shaw Collaboration are the Tarte complexion enhancing lipstick, the SpaRitual nail polish, and the Oscar de la Renta Mi Corazon scent!

The Dallas Shaw illustrated box is extremely adorable and the awesome products incuded in this GLOSSYBOX made it amazing!  At $21 for a Monthly Subscription and free shipping, the luxury products included are worth more than the box itself.

Cafe Zupas Opens in Summerlin

Cafe Zupas recently opens their doors to a new Las Vegas location in Summerlin.  Our little family was lucky to join fellow bloggers, growing families, and lovers of good, fresh, healthy food.

A few months ago, we attended the launch of their East-Side location and we've been back quite a few times since then.  It was a big hit for our family.  Homemade soups and signature salads at wallet-friendly prices, and now a Summerlin location closer to our neighborhood.  Cafe Zupas is definitely family friendly, the food is amazing, and the staff is so friendly (even after my son spilled his drink).

Cafe Zupas has a variety of homemade soups, gourmet sandwiches, signature salads, and too amazing to describe deserts!  Fresh healthy food followed by yummy sweets.

My sweet princess and charming prince loved watching their food made freshly in front of their little eyes through the glass.  Cafe Zupas makes feeding my kids fruits and vegetables very fun and easy.

I'm a little picky when it comes to food, especially salads, so I love how extremely accomodating and polite the workers are to make sure you're getting exactly what you want.

My husband and I both had the Try 2 Combo for $7.99 each.  Basically you pick two among a Whole Sandwich, Half Salad, and Half Soup.  The food portions are very generous.  My husband got the Turkey Bacon Avocado and the Nuts About Berries Salad.  I'm normally a drench-my-salad with dressing kind of person, but the Nuts About Berries Salad is definitely yummy to me.  As usual, I had a few bites of my husband's food before enjoying my own bowl of New England Clam Chowder and my BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich.

My daughter is a big girl now, so she decided she wanted a big bowl of the New England Clam Chowder with extra bread.  My little prince got the grilled cheese and actually introduced me to my first taste of the Roasted Red Pepper & Lobster soup.  He's 2, so he ordered the soup by pointing.  He picked well, and ate his soup and called it "yum yum."  The Roasted Red Pepper & Lobster soup is now one of my Cafe Zupas favorites.

The sweets!!! Soooo yummy, it's too good to share.

It was a fun night, we had an amazing meal, and all the kids in attendance walked away with Cafe Zupas gift cards as a reward for their artistic coloring skills.

The night ended with happy smiles.

Cafe Zupas serves up fresh, healthy, and yummy food.  Looking at their menu, there are a lot of flavor combinations, that I would never think of.  Cafe Zupas makes exploring new flavors and healthy eating fun.

The official grand opening of Cafe Zupas in Summerlin is August 3rd! Make sure you check it out!

I Love Mint

I love Mint, obviously!  At first sight, I wanted it.  When I felt how soft it was, I needed it!  However, at the Express store, they searched for my size but it wasn't there.  I didn't give up.  They called all the other stores, but still they didn't have my size.  Online they sold out of my size.

My sweet husband called the other stores asking for when they'll be getting shipments, then he called on the days when they received their shipments, and finally he found them. He surprised me with them!

It took a lot of pouting on my part and a lot of hard work for my sweet husband to find them. But I finally have my Stella Colored Brushed Sateen Leggings from Express, and I love them.

I have had this Cole Haan handbag for almost 7 years.  I love it still.  At one point I used it as a diaper bag for both my little princess and my little prince.

Both my white top and mint leggings were bought from Express.

Check them both out at www.Express.com

3 Ways to Protect Your Home From Burning Down

Several days ago I was watching the news and noticed a story about a normal neighborhood that was shaken up because lightning struck a house and caught it on fire. It began to make me think about my own home and I began to wonder if I was prepared for something like that. Sure lightning probably won’t catch my home on fire but maybe a neighbors child will accidently start a fire on my lawn. Maybe someone will forget that they were cooking and a fire might break loose within my own kitchen. The point is that none of us ever know if an accident might be on the way for us and therefore we always need to make sure that we are prepared for a fire. Here are some tips to make sure that you and your family are prepared for a fire within your own home.

1. Fire Extinguisher

When was the last time you took a good look at your fire extinguisher? Does it still work? Do you and your family members even know how to use the fire extinguisher? Water might not always be on hand so it is very important that your fire extinguisher is on hand and up to par to battle small fires within your home.

2. Insurance

The last thing that anyone wants is to have his or her home burn down or have significant damage from a fire that broke out. But at the very least homeowners have to be prepared for the worst and insurance is a must when it comes to the possibility of damage to an important asset. Does your policy cover your home well? Have you taken a good look at the fine print on your policy and will it take care of your home if things ever do burn down? Price is important when it comes to anything we purchase but the quality of the product we purchase is important as well. That is why quality insurance on your home is a vital part of preparing for a fire in your house.

3. Smoke detectors

Some of you might be bloodhounds that can smell smoke from miles away. But that is a rare group. Most of us might not be able to smell the smoke coming from different parts of our homes so it is absolutely vital to make sure that your smoke detector system is up to par. Make sure you replace the batteries regularly. One of the reasons why I chose Smith Monitoring as my security company is because their app gives me notifications to my phone when the smoke detector detects smoke and if I don’t respond to my phone then they alert authorities of a fire in my home for the safety of myself and my home. Smith Monitoring specializes in The Colony home security and Baytown home security.

The hope is that you never have a fire within your own home but in case you ever do you are now prepared for the worst.

Hydroxatone's AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex

Disclosure: I received the Hydroxatone product by iFabbo for testing and review purposes. My review and opinions are my own.

I'm 31 and have never really paid much attention to taking care of my skin until I turned 30.  Better late than never.  I was ecstatic to get the chance to try Hydroxatone #AntiWrinkleSPF

From my 2 weeks experience using Hydroxatone's AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex I noticed a positive change in my skin.  It feels smoother and more supple.  The creme itself actually blends into my skin without making it feel oily or greasy.

Hydroxatone's AM/PM Anti Wrinkle Complex contains Hyaluronic Acid, Matrixyl3000, Argireline, and SPF 15.  These ingredients are what makes this anti-aging creme effective.  I love that it contains SPF 15, especially on days when I keep forgetting to use SPF.  I know I shouldn't depend on just this to protect my skin,  I see it as an extra bonus.
